About

Why Freediving?

Freediving, unlike any other sport, ignites a primal fear that if not controlled and harnessed can lead to poor outcomes. These self-defeating thoughts can be seen in many areas of our life and are unfortunately part of the human condition. Small incidental pressures pile up and then manifest in the form of stress, which, in turn, can result in sickness, mental illness, and poor outcomes in life.

A Story of Transformation

Over the past five years, The Pressure Project Founder Adam Sellars has been on what could be described as a spiritual journey that has culminated in the colliding of two worlds that have shaped the person he is today.

As an athlete, Adam has always grappled with the pressure that is part and parcel of the sporting experience. But his personal life was not all sunshines and rainbows either. Just like you, he had to constantly struggle with the pressures of everyday life, which at one point even threatened to cripple and derail his life.

The misunderstood sport of Freediving has opened his eyes to a new way of living and coping with the pressures and stresses of sporting, work, and everyday life, which he now wishes to share with teams, organisations, and individuals alike.

Adam is a worldwide PADI Ambassadiver. Adam has attained the highest level of Freediving instruction being a PADI Instructor Trainer.

Adam has competed for Australia in both the AIDA Freediving World championships and Vertical blue Freediving championships.

Adam is also a qualified Meditation teacher and Yoga Instructor. Both being integral parts of the Freediving experience.

Today, Adam uses the principles of meditation, the power of breath and breath hold, and the ability to embrace and withstand the powerful messages from the brain which limit us to empower himself and others in his new path of helping people unlock their potential by breaking free of the shackles of pressure.

No More Limits

To date, Adam has worked with countless multi-million dollar businesses within the corporate world across Australia on subjects ranging from trust-based sales to stress relief. His most notable clients include Kawasaki Australia, Insurance Australia Group, and a host of professional sports teams, such as the members of the Australian and New Zealand Olympic and Paralympic swimming teams in addition to various rugby teams.

Adam also excels in many sports at a high level and has recently been selected to represent Australia in the Caribbean world cup of freediving after just two years of competing.

Eloise Power
Freediver

Turning Panic into Power

Eloise Power is a Freedive Instructor who started her Freediving journey with Adam nearly 5 years ago in search of overcoming a fear of the ocean after a surfing accident. Since then she has never looked back.

Elle has been a school teacher for 20 years so with her extensive experience in education she is a dedicated, passionate, safe and supportive instructor in the water. Through her own navigation of her fears, Elle has seen and felt first-hand the power of overcoming her fears and has developed solid mental strategies to help herself and her students both in and out of the water, when under pressure. She can help others to break down mental barriers and blocks through the use of breath, meditation and yoga principals to help you feel comfortable and empowered in the water.

Most recently Elle is a qualified Mermaid Instructor where she can take the principals of freediving and combine them with beauty, grace and fun of Mermaiding as well as capturing treasured memories with underwater photography. Mermaiding is a great way to start your freediving journey, in a safe, non-competitive environment with no limits or goals to achieve. Elle helps people to unleash their inner goddess through Mermaid Freediving.

Elle helps people to comfortably look within themselves for strength, for answers, for self-love and support instead of always seeking it from “out there.”
She has a respectful passion for the depths of the ocean and her mind which are two of the strongest and most powerful forces in the universe. When strategies are practised and applied to diving in the water and to everyday life, they can help calm an overthinking mind which alleviates stress and anxiety and can assist in mental health.

My Mission:
“I want to help people become the greatest version of themselves, I want to help people to feel good and experience joy, to feel beautiful, to feel amazing and free, to feel strong, empowered, to feel brave, to feel like they’ve accomplished something, to feel fully supported and loved on their journey.
You have to experience this for yourself to see how powerful it is! Your life will never be the same.”

Eloise is looking forward to sharing her experience in Freediving in the Noosa and Sunshine Coast regions.

Dr Courtney Cox
Freediver

Dr Courtney Cox is a dedicated educator who lives and breathes health and wellness. She has personally experienced the impact of sporting injuries and setbacks, which motivated her to pursue a profession where she could help people optimise their performance.

As a Chiropractor, anatomy and physiology lecturer for a yoga teacher training academy, breathwork instructor, and keynote speaker for training female athletes, Courtney deeply understands the human body and mind.

Having witnessed the effects of stress and anxiety on people’s health, Courtney is a strong advocate for using freediving to strengthen physical, emotional, and mental well-being. She completed her Level 1 Freediving course over a decade ago and has been hooked on the sensation ever since. As someone with a dynamic personality and constantly active mind, freediving allows her to be fully present and find stillness.

Through her experience and knowledge, Courtney aims to help people feel comfortable in their bodies and minds, fall in love with the ocean, and become advocates for protecting it. She believes that freediving is not just about reaching new depths or breath-holding records but also about personal experience and connection with the ocean.

Francisco Gelves-Gomez
Freediver

Growing up in Colombia, Francisco has always had a deep sense of care and passion towards Nature. As an area that is often overlooked and left without a meaningful voice, Francisco has dedicated his life studying human-Nature relationships in the context of biodiversity protection and working towards more meaningful interactions between the two. In 2013, he completed a Master of Environment degree, specializing in conservation, restoration, and landscape management. Today, Francisco has now completed his PhD that explores management practices for biodiversity conservation in the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park.

While working in these areas, Francisco has become an avid freediver, embodying the core principles of the discipline. He brings these commitments to the environment into the classroom, teaching people of all different backgrounds, skill levels, and capabilities. His experience teaching at different universities now at University of Tasmania and his continued instructing in freediving allows him to be empathetic to his students needs and to tailor his classes to fit their capabilities and learning styles. As someone who is in love with the ocean and everything it has to offer, Francisco will help you find yourself in the peace and joys of freediving.

Francisco is now heading up Freediving operations in Tasmania with most of the Ocean fun operating from Eagle Hawk Neck. Francisco is now an Advanced Freediving Instructor and looks forward to sharing all the wonders of Tasmania on one breath :).

Taylor Mckeown
Freediver
Taylor McKeown is a former Australian representative in swimming who retired retired after her 3rd Commonwealth Games in 2022. During her 8 years of swimming at the top level, some of Taylor’s achievements include:
– 1x Olympic Games (1x silver medal)
– 3x World Championships (3x bronze medal)
– 3x Commonwealth Games (1x gold medal) – 1x USA Open (1x gold medal)
– 6x Australian Champion.
Taylor has always loved being in the water, and was an avid snorkeller before discovering freediving.
While on a whale swim retreat in Tonga in 2016, Taylor was surrounded by freedivers who could swim through caves, drop down deep to swim over coral reefs and have a good enough breath hold to be able to play underwater with an inquisitive humpback whale calf.
Upon her return to the same retreat in 2018, Taylor had completed a PADI freediver course after decided that she wanted to do all the things she saw the other freedivers doing in 2016.
And so, her passion for freediving was born when Taylor came face to face with a humpback whale in Tonga which decided to play with her and the other divers for hours. Since, Taylor has completed all PADI courses, travelled the world with freediving even diving in the worlds deepest pools in France and Dubai. Taylor is also an Animal Ecologist, bringing a wealth of knowledge in aquatic wildlife, perfect for those wishing to learn about the animals they will be freediving with and their behavior.
