The PADI Two Day ‘Freediver’ course
Over the two-day course, participants receive classroom training, followed by physical techniques in both the pool and the ocean to enable them to achieve maximum propulsion with minimal effort.

The course covers several essential aspects of Freediving, including the physiology and psychology of Freediving, equipment for Freediving, and Freediving safety. Led by Adam Sellars and his team of instructors, the course shares various techniques from Freediving that can enhance mental strength, mental health, and coping skills for stress and anxiety, and achieve calmness before the dive.

Participants of this course can expect to develop skills that will enable them to dive safer, improve their overall health and vitality, explore the underwater world quietly, increase their surfing or spearfishing abilities, and enjoy all the life that inhabits the big blue. They will also acquire skills in breathwork, mindfulness, and calm living, which can help them overcome fear or self-defeating thoughts to enhance their overall well-being.

With experienced instructors on hand to guide you through the learning process, you’ll develop the skills and confidence necessary to push your limits and explore the underwater world in a whole new way.

Course Highlights

There is the option to Complete just the ‘Basic PADI Freediver’ course which is a one day course and only differs from the ‘FREEDIVER course in that it doesn’t include the second day being the boat charter/ Ocean portion.

The PADI Freediver course contains three phases – knowledge development, a confined water sessions and open water sessions. During knowledge development you learn about how your body reacts to breathholding and how water pressure affects you as you dive down. You also learn about freediving equipment, important safety rules and buddy procedures.

In confined water, such as a swimming pool, you learn breathing techniques, then practice breathholds while floating (static apnea) and while swimming (dynamic apnea). You also practice basic rescue techniques and learn your role as a buddy.

During at least two open water sessions, you practice diving down while breathholding, either by pulling yourself along a line (free immersion) or duck diving head first while following a line (constant weight). You learn to gradually increase your depths by relaxing and enjoying each dive. Rescue practice is another key part of the open water sessions.

The PADI Freediver course is flexible and performance based, which means that your PADI Freediving Instructor can offer a wide variety of schedules, organized according to how fast you progress.

Knowledge development is handled through independent study with the PADI Freediver TouchTM – an interactive tablet based app. You pace yourself as you work through each topic, then complete an overall Knowledge Review, then an Exam.

There are at least three water sessions that will likely be scheduled on separate days. So, your training may take two to three days or longer. The recommended course duration is 15 hours.

During confined and open water sessions, your PADI Freediver Instructor will focus on helping you become a confident and comfortable freediver, not on how long it takes. You earn your certification based on demonstrating you know what you need to know and can do what you need to do. This means that you progress at your own pace – faster or slower depending upon the time you need – to become a competent freediver.

Yes, you will need to complete a medical form. Upon review, we may let you know you are required to also complete a valid 4005.1. dive medical prior to your course.

Yes, you will be sent PADI e-learning approximately one week before your course date. This needs to be completed before the Day 1 course

Yes, we provide hire gear at $30 a day.

Yes, we offer pool training for those who have registered on a course. Please contact us to find out about upcoming dates. – is this true? haha

Usually 3-4 hours in total. It is a double dive session – approximately from 7am-12pm.

Yes, we highly recommend you take sea sickness tablets 30 minutes before departing land. As freedivers, we are looking down watching our divers from the surface so seasickness is very common and extremely unpleasant. It can also be dangerous as dehydration can occur. Please speak with your doctor if you require advice and have any concerns.

Yes, we do need a minimum number of people in order to run the course. In the event we can not go ahead with your preferred date, we will try and give you ample notice and provide alternative dates. Please note, sometimes the winter months are a bit quieter.

If you, the customer, wants to cancel or rebook the nominated dates of your course, you must do so before 7 days of each scheduled booking.

No, however we do allow you to put that towards your next day in the ocean or a retreat.

If we are unable to dive in the ocean on day 2, you are able to book on the next available course (no charge), or put the day 2 amount towards a retreat to complete your course on the retreat.
